Video game violence Empty Video game violence

Post by ToonStink Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:35 pm

A very controversial subject, especially now after the many shootings that have happened as of late. The goverment and news channels seem to be blaming it on video games. What are your thoughts on the subject. Are video games too violent?

No. People blame the video games, when they're clearly marked with a rating. If parents are bitching about overly violent games, they shouldn't let 8 year old's play rated M games. Granted some games are horribly brutal, but that doesn't mean anything other than don't buy it for your kids if you don't want them to see it.
And as far as corrupting someone by playing violent video games goes, that's also a bunch of bullshit. If anything it's a release. Apparently there have been many studies testing if video games induce violence in those that play them, have I have not once heard of one saying yes they do.

That's pretty much the way I see it there are ESRB ratings for a reason. Same with movies and graphic novels.

My view, is that if it looks interesting to you then play that shit. Doesn't matter what the rating is unless if you have some religious reasons..... u all know where I was going with that. ;D

It's largely an issue with bad parenting. I see parents take their kids in to get the newest Call of Duty at GameStop every now and then, and I know people that let their kids play unsupervised....

When faced with accusations regarding their parenting, parents will tend to point to the nearest outlet in the blame game. Video games are simply the easiest target.

Video games don't cause violent crimes, although the statistics may be skewed that way because violent people tend to play violent games.

Or they don't look at the rating that tells them exactly what suggestive content will be in it. Which leads us back to Freeze's point, bad parenting.

The older I get, the more I realize just because you're an adult, you're not right which is what is told to us as children, listen to your elders, they know better. There are a lot of stupid parents out there.

Elders know nothing! All they had back in the day was rocks and sticks. Was rocks and sticks rated mature? I don't think so!

There are also studies that show a direct correlation between weed smoking and playing video games.
Weed smoking therefore causes mass shootings.
Quid pro quo.

The same people will tell you that "statistics say the most likely location of death is your own home" or that "our research, funded by the govt. shows that drunk drivers get in more accidents than regular drivers." I.e. they aren't the paragons of sanity or logic.

If mature video games were the cause of this then the millions of COD fans who go and buy each new installment every few years would be going batshit insane every few weeks or so.

The point is that they spend tax dollars to do surveys on it when it's insanely obvious.
