Cormac McCarthy
Just wanted to know what you guys' opinions are of the author. I know most people here who have read him have only read The Road, but I think that should suffice to determine an opinion.

Re: Cormac McCarthy
I think he's one of the most talented American authors of the current age, possibly of all time. I'll go into more details why when I'm not on my iPod.

I don't know who he is. I don't read nearly as much as I'd like to.

Alright, so basically, he's amazing at writing. He avoids many common cliches in his stories, and his works are very poetic. On top of that, they always have lots of layers but aren't too hard to dig into. He also does a very good job settings things up in the story to make sense, so people can't pick them apart and be all "well look at this little plot hole I found here!"
For example, in The Road, we never find out what kind of natural disaster happened. That way, somebody can't come along and be all "actually, a volcanic eruption wouldn't have effected the East Coast of the USA in that way and here is why".
