Puella Magi Madoka Magica films
So, Ghirahim went and bought the DVD version of the Madoka Magica films (barring the new one coming out in two months) and we sat down and watched them. Naturally I felt like I should say something here about them.
They're okay. Pretty cool. Animation improvements in areas and new music. You'd be better off watching the show first though, since some important scenes have been removed to save time. Nonetheless, it works well if you just want to sit down through the whole series with only one break to switch things out essentially.
What really irked me was what I found when Ghirahim let me borrow the soundtrack containing all the new music added for the films. Kajiura, what in the hell happened when you were composing the new music? It's much smaller scale than when they produced the show; considering a conversion from television series to full on god damned movie screenings, this makes absolutely no sense. Also, new music for the third witch strikes out with a mood dissonance unforgivable considering it doesn't even fit the witch it accompanies. I'd go on but likely no one would care about the specific details.
So yeah, other than the shitty music decisions, the movies were pretty good. Not too excited for Rebellion though.
Walpurgis and its accompanying war drums was amazing on a screen and speakers bigger than my computer

Re: Puella Magi Madoka Magica films
The movies had some spots with worse animation than the anime as well. Kinda weird.
They also played up Homura's and Madoka's lesbian-ness. The intro theme having them snuggle up closer than Umbreon and Rug, plus the end where they're both transcendent space brides.
It's basically the same thing as the anime but with some stuff cut out to save time. I'd say watch the anime and not the movies because there are some things that they don't really mention in the movie that are talked about in the anime, and the pacing is better as well.
The biggest complain I have with the movie was the entire opening scene of the first episode was cut out, so when Madoka's like "I think I've seen Homura in my dream" the viewer's like "dafuq?"

Yeah, I like that they added a few new tracks that are pretty cool but otherwise I much prefer the anime instead.
The fact they omitted that scene still confuses me. It makes no sense to remove it.

Maybe it got left out by accident and when they previewed the whole thing they were like "yeah, well, nobody will notice, right?"
