Breeding and Stuff Empty Breeding and Stuff

Eventually we'll be switching from Pokemon Online to the 3DS versions of the game, and when that happens you won't be able to just adjust some sliders and select a few things in a drop down box to get the Pokemon you want. You'll have to breed them if you expect them to be even close to what you get on Pokemon Online.

First off, to breed a Pokemon you put two Pokemon into the Daycare Center and after a step cycle (256 steps) it calculates whether or not you'll get an egg. If the two Pokemon were caught by you and are the same species, or were caught by two different people and are the same species you have about a 50/50 chance of getting an egg in that egg cycle. If the two Pokemon were caught by different people and are different species then you have about a 70% chance of getting an egg in that egg cycle. Unfortunately, if you have caught both Pokemon and they are different species your chance of getting an egg is less than 20% an egg cycle. This is just something to keep in mind if you're running back and forth in front of the Daycare and you're getting an egg every twenty minutes. Because you put two Pokemon, which may be different species, into the Daycare you may be thinking which one do I get? Well the offspring will always be the same species as the mother, except with Ditto. When breeding with a Ditto you will always get the Pokemon that is not the Ditto regardless of gender, because Ditto is a slut and will fuck anything.

Not every Pokemon can breed with one another. Only Pokemon of the same egg group can breed together. There are sixteen egg groups. The types are: Amorphous, Bug, Ditto, Dragon, Fairy, Field, Flying, Gender Unknown, Grass, Human-Like, Mineral, Monster, Undiscovered, and three Water groups. Some Pokemon have one egg group and some have three, you can either check the Pokedex to find out the egg group or check online. Some Pokemon can't breed with anything but a Ditto, those are the Gender Unknown Pokemon. The Pokemon in Undiscovered and Ditto groups can't breed at all because they are, for the most part, either Legendaries or baby Pokemon.

How to hatch eggs isn't even worth a new paragraph, but for organizational sake here we are. Just fucking walk. Or run. Or bike. Some Pokemon take a long time to hatch. Some take almost no time. Just dale with it. Although having a Pokemon in your party with the ability Flame Body will make hatching WAY faster.

Now for the real breeding. There are four big things you can accomplish through breeding. Obtaining a specific nature, ability, moves, and IVs.
+IVs are good. The more you have the higher the stat will be, and that's also good. If you go breed two Pokemon together the offspring will inherit three random IVs values from the parents. Now you can control which IV's will be inherited by using power items(Power Weight[HP], Power Bracer[Atk], Power Belt[Def], Power Lens[S.Atk], Power Band[S.Def], and Power Anklet[Speed]). By having a Pokemon hold one of these items while breeding it will pass the IV value down to the offspring. Another awesome item for breeding is the Destiny Knot. This item makes it so instead of passing down three random IVs from the parent it passes down five, just hold while breeding.
+A species of Pokemon can have as many as three available abilities. Some can be awesome ore great for a specific set. Others flat out suck. Initially the mother has a 80% chance to pass on the the ability of the female, unless the ability is the Pokemon's "Hidden Ability" in which case it's a 60% chance to pass on the ability. The only way to check if an ability is hidden, as far as I know, is to look it up online. Unfortunately there are no cool items that help with passing on abilities, your chances are relatively high so you don't really have to worry about it that much though.
+ToonStink explained what natures do, so I won't go into detail about what they do. Natures are super easy to pass on. Passing them on is as simple as having the Pokemon with the desired nature hold an Everstone while breeding. If no Pokemon holds an Everstone then the nature will be random. There are 25 natures so the Everstone is much preferred.
+Passing moves on is a pain in the ass. First off, genderless Pokemon can not inherit moves. Secondly, only egg moves of the offspring will be passed on, oh and TMs are passed down as well. Third, the offspring's father must know the move that is being passed on prior to breeding. Finally, the Pokemon must be in the same egg group. This specifics are hard to explain, so I'll use an example: We want an Eevee with the move Wish, but Eevee can only learn Wish as an egg move, which means it has to be born with it or it won't have it at all. Eevee can breed with Pikachu and Pikachu can learn Wish as an egg move as well. Togetic can learn Wish through level up which we can breed with a Pikachu and then with an Eevee to get Wish. So we obtain a male Togetic with Wish and breed it with a female Pikachu. This will give us a Pichu with Wish, but we need it to be male. Once we get a male Pichu with Wish we can evolve it into a Pikachu, because baby Pokemon can't breed, and breed the now Pikachu with Wish with an Eevee and boom, we have an Eevee with Wish. Like I said, pain in the ass.

One new awesome feature added into gen VI is the Friend Safari. The Friend Safari may seem like a way to catch a Pokemon you want, but what you may not know is that the Friend Safari Pokemon will ALWAYS have at least two IVs that are 31(MAX). We can use this to our advantage as breeders and talk to the IV checker in Kiloude City to find out what the perfect IVs are. Once we know what the IVs are we can use the Power Items to pass an IV down to an offspring. Then we switch the Power Item and Pokemon if necessary then breed with the offspring that now has one perfect IV. Continue the process until you have an offspring with four perfect IVs and then use the Destiny Knot instead of the Power Items and you could get a Pokemon with 5 perfect IVs. You can also put an Everstone onto the offspring to retain the nature if you'd like. Now what you really want to do is find a Friend Safari with a Ditto(Like I did) and the catch a few combinations of perfect IV ditto then you can just breed those instead of having to go catch Pokemon in the same egg group.

Let me know if I left anything out.

Are there any tricks on getting the IVs I need for the Hidden Power I want? Tell us ignorant masses the difficult yon breeding for specific IVs that aren't 31.

Unfortunately there isn't any real way to get specific powers. Just guess and check. It's also gay.
