Masuda Method and language selection
I've been trying to look into this and got extremely drastic results and hardly any proof to back up others' claims but what are the limits to the Masuda method in X and Y when all regional versions of the games have a language selection? I reset my USA region cart and 3DS's Y version and set the language to Japanese and then proceeded to trade to my English X version for some trade evolution. The pokemon I received from my USA!JPN!Y version had the badge with the letters JPN to signify it was generated in a game that is of Japanese origin (language at the very least). The pokemon that evolved ended up having its name in Japanese but lacked the badge since it was generated in an English game so my Porygon evolved to ポリゴン2 and then to ポリゴンZ but did not have the JPN badge. Furthermore the pseudo-foreign pokemon also benefits from the 170% EXP boost (same language-different OT pokemon receive a 150% boost which is why Torchic is so broken) that foreign pokemon receive. Actually testing the method would be unreliable due to luck being a huge factor and I don't feel like hatching 3298747875563564705 eggs and try calculating a percentage out of that. My concern with this is that if the Masuda method doesn't actually work with these pokemon then it would be extremely easy to con people that are specifically looking for foreign pokemon for breeding shinies. Would Game Freak give the benefit of the doubt by having the method work on the language of the game instead of the region-lock?

I think it still works, there hasn't been any news on Serebii or Smogon that it doesn't.

So it would seem because that would be a dick move to pull. I've also heard that the games don't really have a region-lock but I doubt that's really true. But if it is then it could also prove that it goes by language instead of region.

They aren't region-locked but the 3DS is, so you can't get Japanese events unless you have a Japanese 3DS.

So I guess they did kinda sorta cut corners for the international release then. It's seeming more likely now that it is possible to masuda regardless of the cart's origin since it's just too easy to trick people otherwise.
