Mega Evolutions?

So it looks like various Pokemon will have Mega evolutions. They stay the same Pokemon but may get new types an abilities. Mawile will be a Steel/Fairy type in both Mega and non-Mega versions. A Fairy/electric type Pokemon that looks like a gay version of Raichu has also been revealed.

What're your guys' thoughts on the newly revealed starter mega evolutions? I hate the designs, but at least they gave Venusaur Thick Fat.
I don't know how Drought and raised special attack are gonna save Charizard from a well timed Stone Edge though.

At least Charizard needed better Special Attack since it's all special moves but Physical based.
I seriously think they should have made Mega Evolutions reserved exclusively for Stage 2 Pokemon. Also, it's lame how they need to be activated in battle. Only Pokemon with super-high defenses are going to use Mega Evolutions.
